New: A 'NO
DONATIONS' Fund Raiser for the implementation of a
Dream Project
A
Dream Project.
-
A coming
together of ideas and solutions
discussed here. Use the menu on the left for
individual solutions
-
Start with one (pilot) - then (if successful) replicate it village after
village. Create self sufficient villages and families who will not require food handouts
anymore. In the process, save trees (and the planet). Yes, sounds like its
just a dream!
Target:
A large family or whole village
in a rural area
Key requirements: Land and Water
Food self sufficiency:
A traditional balanced diet using local produce
-
Breakfast
-
Lunch
-
sadza / rice / potatoes
-
meat: fish, chicken, goat, sheep, beef
-
vegetables: green veges, onions, tomatoes, peas,
beans
-
Supper
-
sadza / rice / potatoes
-
meat: fish, chicken, goat, sheep, beef
-
vegetables: green veges, onions, tomatoes, peas,
beans
-
Snacks
-
wild fruits, water melons, carrots, roasted nuts,
etc
Additional benefits
-
Improved crop yields and food security
-
improved soil fertility:
pigeon pea and jatropha plants, animal
manure
-
pollination by bees
-
live fencing with jatropha protects crops from
animals
-
pigeon peas are a drought resistant
food crop
-
Cash from excess produce and other spin offs: to pay
school fees etc
-
sell jatropha seeds to NOCZIM for biodiesel
production
-
sell excess crops, vegetables, milk, honey, fish,
etc to city dwellers
-
Biogas from cow dung for
cooking, lighting, and heating: reducing need to spend hours searching for firewood in
the wild (& save trees)
-
Soil preservation: pigeon
peas have a root system that prevents soil erosion
-
Save trees: use biogas and when necessary, use trees
that would have died naturally and pigeon pea left over stems for fire
-
Better fed and more productive animals: improved
fertility, more milk, more eggs, more cash when animals are sold on the
market.
What are we waiting for?
Wanted!
-
This may be theoretical, but
it all sounds feasible and we would love to try it.

If you do implement this
somewhere, please let us know when you do and how you get on. Let us share the
knowledge and experiences.
