Featuring: Bee Keeping

Great qualities

  • Uses readily available natural resources: land, trees, bees

  • Bees get their food from the wild

  • Bees are natural pollinators and are beneficial to plants: improve crop yields

  • Easily integrated with other agricultural activities

  • Valuable by-products: beeswax, propolis, royal jelly, and bee venom

We know that:

  • The honey production potential of the SADC region is vastly under-exploited. Most countries, including Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, etc, are net importers of honey: Zimbabwe is said to import up to 60% of its requirements.

  • At US$2 per kg for raw honey, a small scale farmer could make US$6000 per quarter from 100 hives (Read the full article HERE .. .)

  • White House Honey: Michelle Obama gets her honey from her White House garden! She gets enough to include a small jar in her guests' goodies bags. Her impressive looking garden is pollinated by bees. See some pictures HERE.
